Weaving (PSY/MOR)

Knacks: Weave Patterns, Storms, Relics

A character with the Weaving skill can manipulate exotic matter into Patterns, akin to spells in traditional fantasy RPGs. Patterns enable the creation of phenomena like lightning bolts, anti-gravity fields, or barriers of ice as examples.

To understand the various components to Weaving and the Meachanics, you should have read Weaving under the Game Rules section first.

Weaving a Pattern

**The Steps**
1. Declare
2. Weave Pattern
3. Resolve Effect
4. Resist Backlash

Declare

Weaver declares they are using a Formulaic or Spontaneous Pattern along with the the power, that can be a number from 1 up to the Character’s Psyche Trait.

Roll

Roll Weaving skill + Relic Level vs Target Number

Target Number = 4 + Modifiers (Modifiers, Walking, Running, Wounds, Strain, Environmental factors.)

Compare the Weaver’s roll to the target number

ConditionOutcome
Roll under Target NumberFailed
Roll equals or exceeds TNSuccess
Roll 4 above Target NumberCritical Success

Now take the Power of the Pattern, plus any critical successes and assign the points as follows to get the desired effect.

ThreadPointsEffect
Energy1+1 Wound or Strain in damage
Energy1Increase effect duration by 1 turn (e.g., an anti-gravity field)
Form11 bolt/arrow/shard
Form11 metre of effect radius (e.g., a 2-point Sphere extends 2 m)
Focus1+1 target

Resolve

If the Pattern is a damaging attack, it is resolved the same as if using a weapon. If the effect is altering an opponent's perception or mental state, it will be an opposed test.

Resist Backlash

Channelling exotic matter is inherently dangerous, as some energy invariably backlashes against the Weaver. Every Pattern causes a number of Wounds equal to its Power that must be resisted. If a Relic is used, this physical damage is converted into Strain instead.

To resist backlash, roll Weaving + Morale against a target number based on whether the Pattern is formulaic or spontaneous.

Pattern TypeTarget Number Calculation
Formulaic Pattern(Power ÷ 2 – Relic Level) + Modifiers
Spontaneous Pattern(Power – Relic Level) + Modifiers

Modifiers may include factors like existing Wounds, Strain, the presence of a Curio, or ongoing conditions.
