Weaving
A character with the Weaving skill can manipulate exotic matter into Patterns, akin to spells in traditional fantasy RPGs. Patterns enable the creation of phenomena like lightning bolts, anti-gravity fields, or barriers of ice as examples.
Components of a Pattern
To create a Pattern, a Weaver must channel exotic matter using an anchor, which focuses the energy needed to build and weave the Pattern.
- Anchor Options:
- The Weaver themselves (at the risk of physical damage).
- A Relic, a modern device that acts as an anchor, sparing the Weaver from physical harm.
As the Threads of exotic matter accumulate at the anchor, the Weaver shapes them into a Pattern by combining:
- Thread Energy: Represents the energy the exotic matter is being manipulated into (e.g., chemical, kinetic).
- Thread Form (Verb): Determines the shape or method of energy delivery (e.g., blast, barrier).
- Thread Focus (Noun): Specifies the target or application of the Pattern (e.g., self, target, object).
By weaving these Threads, a Weaver creates a Pattern that interacts with the world according to their intentions.
Types of Patterns
-
Formulaic Patterns
- Predesigned and perfected over time.
- Easier to cast and more reliable, though they require an investment of Advancement Points (AP) to learn permanently.
-
Spontaneous Patterns
- Improvised and crafted on the fly based on player creativity.
- More difficult to weave and often less powerful than Formulaic Patterns.
